Here is an article about the architecture of the SM3/DX9 graphics cards. This article mainly aims to clarify the vocabulary used to describe the features of these GPUs (vertex pipeline, pixel shader, dynamic branching, etc). The article is also aimed at everyone wishing to understand in a simple manner the working of the Shader Model 3.0 / DirectX 9 / OpenGL 2 GPUs. A benchmark showing the impact of dynamic branching is also provided.
